This is the urban center of Jacksonville and the heart of apartment/condo living. Residents are just steps away from the city’s busiest establishments for business, entertainment and nightlife. This area features many upscale bars and restaurants, a bustling financial district, shopping centers, sports/arts/music venues and so much more. Residents can find several high rise housing establishments for either purchase or rent, often with luxury amenities and local services available for hire.

These make up a group of towns and communities along the Atlantic coast of Florida. It is home to a wide array of oceanfront properties ranging from vacation cottages to airy beachside family homes to commercial properties boasting some of the best views that Jacksonville has to offer. The atmosphere in this area is ideal for tourists and vacationers and features great seafood restaurants, laid back bars and lots of live music. It is also greatly influenced by local art and culture.

Lake Shore, Murray Hill, New Town, Durkeeville, Arlington, Sandalwood
A bit further from the bustle of downtown, this area features varying residential areas that house people from all walks of life. Residents can find both public and private schools, multiple parks, restaurants, bars, community gardens and an art centers. Along this part of town, it is common to notice the integrated storefronts of older established Jacksonville merchants and newer businesses that are easing the area into a more modern feel.

Avondale, Ortega, Springfield, Riverside
These oldest towns in the Jacksonville area have been identified as U.S. historic districts and are in the National Register of Historic Places. Parts of the community consist of historic homes both inland and along the waterfront, a cluster of Spanish Colonial estate homes, as well as many postwar frame, brick, and stucco bungalows. It is known for its quiet, tree-lined residential streets and hundreds of quaint homes, most dating from the early 1920s during the Great Florida Land Boom. These are some of the most affluent sections of Jacksonville and have been listed nationally as some of the top residential neighborhoods in the U.S.

Jacksonville is served by the Duval County Public School system which houses many elementary, middle and high school establishments. Most notably the Darnell-Cookman Middle High School, Stanton College Preparatory School and Paxon School for Advanced Studies which were named among the top 25 most challenging schools in the U.S. Additionally, there are several magnet schools and charter schools available.

Jacksonville also contains a number of colleges and universities. It is home to the Jacksonville campuses of Florida State College and the University of North Florida. Residents may also work at or attend Jacksonville University, University of Florida Health Science Center or the Art Institute of Jacksonville. There are also many educational establishments available outside of city limits such as Flagler College in nearby St. Augustine.

In case of emergency, Jacksonville has a strong team of first responders working for both the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue department as well as the Jacksonville Sheriff’s office. The latter is a marriage of the original Jacksonville Police Department and The Jacksonville Sheriff and consists of patrol and enforcement, detective, narcotics and homeland security divisions. Also located in Jacksonville is the Montgomery Correctional Center which houses both male and female inmates with a total population of approximately 650 at a given time.

Jacksonville has long had a regional legacy in banking and finance. In a concept known as nearshoring, financial institutions are shifting operations away from high-cost addresses like Wall Street, and have even shifted trading functions to Jacksonville. The city is home to several local and national banking institutions as well as several major financial corporations. Perhaps the best example of this is the growth of Deutsche Bank's presence in the city. Jacksonville is home to Deutsche Bank's second largest US operation; only New York is larger. Other institutions with a notable presence in Jacksonville include Macquarie Group, Bank of America, Wells Fargo, JPMorgan Chase, Citi, Citizens Property Insurance, Fidelity Investments, Ally Financial and Aetna.

Many various media outlets service the Jacksonville area. The Florida Times-Union and the Jacksonville Business Journal are two notable publications that originate in downtown Jacksonville. There are also local studios for most major TV networks as well as smaller local studios that produce regional news, weather and entertainment updates. The largest radio affiliation is the iHeartRadio network which connects its local Jacksonville broadcast to programs nationwide.

Live Music
From world-class headliners to local up-and-comers, Jacksonville is abuzz with a wide array of live music. Jacksonville Veterans Arena is the city's largest concert venue boasting visits from the likes of Beyonce and Elton John. Residents and visitors may also stop by the Robert E. Jacoby Symphony Hall for a bit of classical flavor or the popular indie venue 1904 Music Hall. Additionally, many local bars host live music nightly and there are also open air concerts by the beach when the weather permits.
